Saving time in the analysis of hundreds of collective agreements was the challenge proposed by the UIMM, the Union des industries et métiers de la métallurgie, when it met with Hyperlex. Sophie Sebah, Head of the Individual Labour Relations Department, tells us how the software was implemented and the benefits it brought.

Sophie, can you introduce yourself and the UIMM?

I am Sophie Sebah, Head of the Individual Labour Relations Department. I joined the Labour Law Department in 2016, which is made up of 5 lawyers in the field of employment law.

The UIMM is the employers' association for industrial companies in the metalworking sector. It represents 42,000 companies in a wide range of sectors such as metalworking, mechanics, automobile, shipbuilding, aeronautics, space, rail, electricity and nuclear... Its aim is to support industrial companies and employment by relying on its network of local offices throughout France.

What issues encouraged you to seek a solution like Hyperlex?

As part of the work to overhaul the collective bargaining system in the metalworking industry, we needed to quickly compare the content of hundreds of collective agreements in order to draw up an inventory of the current situation and to design future contractual provisions.

What tools did you use before Hyperlex and what attracted you to Hyperlex?

We were using paper and pdf. Hyperlex offered us the possibility toautomate, thanks to AI, the search for clauses or terms in numerous collective agreements. It was a question of being able to know their content, compare them with each other and easily extract them in order to present them in the form of graphics.

How was this solution implemented?

The solution was implemented in August 2018. The Hyperlex teams enabled us to deploy their intelligent search engine in a few weeks.

The tool was then rolled out to other legal teams working on the same project (20 users in total).

Each team needed to audit the clauses related to its scope. These teams had only a few weeks to audit the collective agreements (over 1,000 documents) and would have had to spend much more time doing it manually.

How did you get started?

The UIMM implemented Hyperlex and each team was able to express its needs to Hyperlex Customer Success, which was able to adapt to the specificities of our requests. We regularly send them suggestions for improvements which they sometimes integrate within a week!

ALEXANDRE GRUX, HYPERLEX CEO: "The various UIMM teams were able to interact regularly with our teams to provide feedback on their areas of improvement, which also enabled us to improve our interface in an agile manner."

What features/tools do you use within the solution?

Thanks to the clause search function, our teams can quickly find the necessary information within the scanned documents and save precious time. In addition to clauses, the legal team needed to search for cross-cutting concepts that do not always correspond to an article or clause. Hyperlex ensures the exhaustiveness of their search with advanced search functionalities based on cumulative or alternate expressions (and/or).

The UIMM saved time on the audit of its collective agreements compared to manual processing, which allowed them to free up time for expert work (legal analysis and drafting).

What are the main benefits of our solution?

  • Time saving
  • Visibility of contractual data
  • Decision support

Hyperlex in a nutshell for you?

Hyperlex has enabled us to find a concrete application for artificial intelligence within our organisation. The solution has become an essential tool for the UIMM's legal teams.

Thank you Sophie!
